Clemson Defeats Wofford and Presbyterian in Men’s Tennis

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson men’s tennis team defeated Wofford 7-0 and Presbyterian 7-0 in an intercollegiate tennis double header at Clemson, SC Saturday.

Clemson, ranked 53rd nationally, is now 2-0 on the year. It was also the season opener for both Wofford and Presbyterian. Both matches were played indoors at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center on the Clemson campus.

Freshman, Gerardo Meza played number one singles for the Tigers. He defeated Michael Schecter of Wofford in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. He later defeated Grayson Mills of Presbyterian 6-1, 6-3.

Both Wofford and Presbyterian are two of Clemson’s oldest tennis opponents. The Tigers started playing both schools in the 1920s. In fact, Wofford was Clemson’s first-ever dual match opponent as the two schools played on April 28, 1921 at Spartanburg. The Tigers won a singles and a doubles match that day to claim a 2-0 victory.

Clemson will play host to the Citadel on Tuesday, January 18, at 2:00 p.m. in the Tigers’ next action.
