ATLANTA, GA – Erin Batth scored 18 points, and Chrissy Floyd added 14 in leading Clemson to a 72-64 win over Georgia Tech in a women’s Atlantic Coast Conference basketball game at Atlanta, GA Thursday night.
Clemson’s Nuria Forns had 13 points and 10 rebounds for her second ever career double-double. The Lady Tigers’ Marci Glenney also scored in double figures as she finished with 11 points.
Georgia Tech was led in scoring by Niesha Butler with 19 points. Tamika Boatner had eight rebounds to lead Georgia Tech. Clemson is ranked 20th in both the Associated Press and USA Today polls.
Clemson is now 14-4 overall, 5-2 in the ACC. Georgia Tech falls to 10-6 overall, 2-4 in the league.
In the first half, Clemson took an early 11-0 in the first four minutes of play behind Nuria Forn’s five points. Georgia Tech first scored with 15:11 left. After Clemson took the 11-0 advantage, Georgia Tech went on a 20-8 lead and took its first lead 20-19 with 7:17 remaining.
With the score tied 28-28 with 3:57 left, Clemson went on a 10-4 run to take a 38-32 lead at the half. Chrissy Floyd scored four points in this late Clemson run.
Georgia Tech scored the first six points of the second half and tied the score at 40-40 with 15:18 left in the game. In the second half, their were eight ties with the last occuring at 59-59 with 4:12 remaining.
From this point, Clemson went on a 7-0 run and built a 66-59 lead with 2:12 left in the game behind Erin Batth’s two free throws and hook shot in the middle. In the final 4:12, Clemson outscored the Yellow Jackets 13-5 to give the Lady Tigers a 72-64 win. Nuria Forns hit four free throws in the final minute of play to help seal the victory.
Clemson shot 25-54 from the field for a .463 figure, Georgia Tech shot 26-70 from the floor for a .371 mark. The Yellow Jackets won the battle of the boards 42-32.
“I am proud of our team,” said Clemson Head Coach Jim Davis. “We found a way to win. I thought Nuria Forns stepped up and played big for us tonight. She had some key rebounds and defensive plays for us tonight.”
