TALLAHASSEE, FL – The 29th ranked Clemson Tigers defeated Florida A&M 6-1 in a men’s intercollegiate tennis match at Tallahassee, FL Friday afternoon.
With the win, Clemson improves to 15-0 overall. The Tigers are ranked 29th nationally according to the latest ITA poll. This is the highest the men’s tennis team has been ranked since the Tigers were ranked 23rd in the final poll of the 2007 season.
Coach Chuck McCuen¹s Tigers are now 15-0 on the year. This is the school’s second best start in the 100 years of the program. The best start of the season was in 1969. The 1969 team finished that season with a perfect 16-0 record and won the school’s first ACC Championship.
The Tigers’ Kevin Galloway won his match at number three singles with a victory over Marc Atkinson 6-1, 6-0. Galloway now has an 18-6 record overall and a 14-1 mark in dual matches. Teammate Carlos Alvarez is now 15-4 overall in singles and is 12-0 in dual matches this season as he defeated the Rattlers’ David Jackson at number one singles 6-3, 7-6.
Clemson will play at ACC foe Florida State on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. in Tallahassee, FL. This will be the 32nd meeting between Clemson and Florida State on the tennis courts. Clemson leads the overall series 17-14. The series started in 1962.
