Clemson Concludes Day One of Lake Wheeler Invite

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Clemson Tigers’s two second place finishes in the morning session highlighted day one of Clemson’s performance at the Lake Wheeler Invite in Raleigh, N.C. on Friday, April 26. Overall, the Tigers finished with two second place, two third place, five fourth place, one fifth place finish.

“The team showed a lot of grit today,” said Head Coach Stephen Frazier Wong. “Our 1V4 led the way for us putting together two consecutive podium finishes. They are a new combination so we’re really proud of how they stepped up. Next the 1V8 and the 3V8 both had top three finishes in the morning’s racing to also score points for our team. The 2V8 is also a new lineup this week and they showed great improvement after only three practices together. Our 2V4 also stepped up in their afternoon race to finish in front of Boston College in a battle to try to secure a better seeding in the ACC Championship in three weeks. It was truly an exciting day and we can’t wait for round three tomorrow.”

The Tiger’s 3v8 started the day strong for Clemson with a solid second place finish at 7:31.606, defeating Iowa, UNC, Navy and Louisville. Next, Clemson’s 2v4 took fifth place with a 8:27.036 time. The 1v4 followed and earned Clemson another second place finish as they defeated Iowa, UNC, Navy and Louisville with a 8:27.036 time. The Tigers 2v8 then placed fourth in a tight race with UCF, Iowa, Louisville, Navy and UNC, finishing at 7:09.707. To close out the morning races, Clemson’s 1v8 finished in the middle of the pack at third, defeating Louisville, Navy and UNC, but falling behind UCF and Iowa as they raced in 6:51.591 minutes.

Remaining in the same lineups, the 3v8’s once again started the racing for the afternoon session. Both Clemson’s 3v8’s and 2v4’s would place fourth in their second race of the day with a 7:22.065 and 8:19.216 time respectively. The Tiger’s 1v4 trailed Syracuse by just a second to give them third place at 7:52.799. After that, Clemson notched their fourth and fifth fourth place finishes of the day, as the 2v8 placed fourth with a 7:15.293 time and the 1v8 also placed fourth with a 7:07.452.
