Clemson Basketball #1 in Sagarin Computer Ratings

Dec. 14, 2006

The Clemson men’s basketball team is ranked #1 in the latest Sagarin computer rating. This marks the first time since the 1996-97 season that Clemson has been atop the Sagarin ratings, and just the third time ever the Tigers have been ranked #1. Clemson was also atop the ratings in December of 1986, when Cliff Ellis’ squad won its first 17 games.

Clemson, ranked #25 in the ESPN/USA Today coaches’ poll this week, is the only remaining undefeated team in the Atlantic Coast Conference and one of just eight in the nation. The Tigers are slightly ahead of UCLA, the nation’s top team in both polls this week, in the Sagarin.

The Tigers have a 10-0 record this season, which includes a perfect 5-0 mark away from home. Clemson is one of a handful of teams with a perfect road record. The Tigers are 3-0 on the road, recording wins at Old Dominion, Minnesota, and South Carolina. Clemson also has a win over a top-30 Sagarin team, a 69-66 victory against Mississippi State at home in November.

The Tigers are in the midst of a 13-day break between games. Clemson returns to action on Tuesday, December 19 to take on the Georgia Southern Eagles. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM from Littlejohn Coliseum.
