Clemson APR Scores are Strong

May 6, 2009

Clemson, SC – Seventeen of Clemson’s 19 athletic programs are above the national average for public institutions according to Academic Progress Rate scores released by the NCAA on Wednesday.

All Clemson men’s programs were above the national average for public institutions, including the baseball program, which had a 974 score that ranked the program between the 80th and 90th percentile nationally. The Clemson football program was in the 70th to 80th percentile with a program best 955 score.

The Clemson rowing team, which won the ACC Championship last month, had the highest team APR score with a 992, while the volleyball team was second at 970. The Clemson golf program, ranked fourth in the nation on the course, tied for the top men’s program with a 981 score. Cross country also had a 981 score.

“I am pleased with our APR data released by the NCAA today for the multi-year period that runs from 2004-05 through 2007-08,” said Athletic Director Terry Don Phillips.

“I am pleased on a number of fronts. Most importantly all programs are over the 925 threshold, and 17 of the 19 are above the national average for public institutions. That includes the high profile sports of football, basketball (men and women) and baseball.

“You look at our scores over the last three years and we see consistent improvement. Eleven of the 19 programs had their highest APR scores since the NCAA began producing the reports.

“I appreciate the importance our coaches place on academics and appreciate the efforts of Becky Bowman and her staff at Vickery Hall.”
