Clemson, SC – The men’s and women’s cross country schedule was announced Thursday by assistant coach Gordon Thomson, who oversees the distance programs at Clemson. The season gets underway Friday, August 29 with the Covered Bridge Open at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC.
Following the season opener, the team will travel to Spartanburg, SC for the 25th annual Eyeopener, which will be held at USC Upstate. The meet will be held September 6 at the Roger Milliken Center. Clemson’s second meet in September will be on the 20th at the Delaware Invitational.
Clemson will travel to Auburn, AL on October 4 for the Auburn Invitational, held at Indian Pines Golf Course. Following a week off, the teams will prepare for one of two meets, the Blue Ridge Open (October 17) or the Pre-NCAA Championships (October 18). The Pre-Nationals event will be held in Terre Haute, IN at the LeVern Gibson Course. The Blue Ridge Open will again be at Appalachian State.
“At both the Auburn Invitational and the Pre-National meet we will be competing against schools from all over the nation,” Thomson said. “These two meets will be an excellent lead-up to a hilly ACC Championship in Chapel Hill.”
The 31st annual ACC Cross Country Championships will be held in Chapel Hill, NC on November 1. Last season, Clemson’s men placed fourth in the conference standings while the women’s team finished 10th.
The conference meet will serve as a final tune-up for the NCAA Southeast Region Championships, held November 15 in Clemmons, NC. The regional races are 6000m for the women and 10,000m for the men. The Clemson men finished sixth at regionals in 2007, while the women’s team was 15th at the same meet.
The NCAA Championships will once again be held in Terre Haute, IN. The meet will be November 24.
