Nov. 25, 2011

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson’s men’s basketball team will take part in the 2012 Old Spice Classic in Orlando, FL, as announced by ESPN on Thanksgiving Day. The Tigers will be part of the prestigious eight-team tournament November 22, 23 & 25, 2012. The other seven teams slated to compete are Davidson, Gonzaga, Marist, Oklahoma, UTEP, Vanderbilt and West Virginia. The event will be held at the HP Field House at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports Complex.

The 2012 Old Spice Classic will feature 12 games over three days. Each team will compete in one game per day, advancing through a bracket-tournament format. The two teams that remain undefeated throughout face off in a championship game on Sunday, Nov. 25.

This will be Clemson’s first appearance in the seven-year history of the Old Spice Classic. Clemson has competed in a number of ESPN-sponsored tournaments over the past few years. The Tigers won the inaugural Charleston Classic in 2008, went 2-1 in the 76 Classic in Anaheim, CA in 2009, and will play in the 2011 Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu, HI next month. All are ESPN-sponsored regular season tournaments.

Previous winners of the Old Spice Classic are Arkansas (2006), NC State (2007), Gonzaga (2008), Florida State (2009) and Notre Dame (2010). This year’s champion will be crowned on Sunday, Nov. 27.
