Clemson 11th at Ping/Golfweek Preview

Clemson, SC – Clemson’s third-ranked golf team finished 11th at the Ping/Golfweek Preview on Monday. The 54-hole, two-day event was held at Caves Valley Golf Club in Baltimore, MD, the site of next spring’s NCAA Championship. Clemson finished had a team score of 882, a 42-over par score for the par 70 course that is 7124 yards in length.

Clemson’s top golfer for the event was Stephen Poole, a junior from Spartanburg who was 27th with a 219 score, nine over par. Poole had rounds of 74-72-72. His 72 on Monday was Clemson’s top round of the day.

Jack Ferguson, a senior from Seneca, shot a 220 after rounds of 74-72-74, good enough for 34th place. Brian Duncan, who was Clemson’s top player at The Ridges in the first event of the year, finished one stroke back at 221 after rounds of 76-72-73.

Brent Delahoussaye was Clemson’s top golfer on Sunday with a two-round total of 144, but he had a final round 78 and finished at 222, good enough for 43rd place. He had been 20th entering the final round. Nick Biershenk, who was playing in his first career tournament, had a 235 total and finished 69th.

Oklahoma State won the championship with an 849 score, nine over par for the event. Georgia Tech was second at 852 and Georgia was third at 861. The Bulldogs had a one-under-par 279 team round on Monday. Clemson’s 11th place finish was two shots better than defending NCAA Champion California and other Pac 10 schools Arizona and UCLA, who were all 44 over par.
