Clemson 10th after First Round of US Collegiate

CLEMSON, SC – Freshman Cody Proveaux fired an even par 72 to lead Clemson to a 301 team score and a 10th place standing in the 15-team US Collegiate at the Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta, GA on Friday.  The 54-hole event that includes 11 top 25 teams continues on Saturday and Sunday.

Southern Cal has the team lead at one over par 289.

Proveaux was the only Tiger to shoot even par, as he had two birdies and two bogeys in a clean round on the par 72 course near Atlanta.  It was the ninth round of 75 or better for Proveaux, most on the team.  He stands in a tie for 12th place after the first round.

Miller Capps, who is coming off a third place finish at the Jerry Pate Invitational earlier this week, had a two over par 74 on Friday.  His round included two birdies and four bogeys.

Crawford Reeves was Clemson’s third best golfer on Friday with a five over par 77.  He had a double bogey on the par four seventh hole and shot four over par on the front nine.  But, he was just one over on the back nine, including a birdie on the final hole.

Freshman Blake Kennedy, playing in just the second tournament of his career, had a six over par 78.  He had a triple bogey on the 15th hole, leading to a five over par 41 on that side.

Sophomore Billy Kennerly had an 81 in the first round and his round did not count towards Clemson’s team score.
