Clemson, SC – The Lady Tiger track & field team completed the first day of action at the Solid Orange Classic on Friday. Della Clark and Rochelle Kokayko posted regional-qualifying marks for Clemson in the hammer throw. Jenny Barton and Sunday Ford recorded wins Friday in the distance events.

Barton, school record-holder in the 3000m steeplechase, won the event Friday afternoon with a time of 11:15.96. Teammate Ashley Robinson was fourth with a time of 12:24.88. In the 5000m, Ford put together quite a performance and won handily with a time of 18:31.17. Her closest competitor was Farrah Stewart of Troy in 19:27.06. Lauren Marriott finished in sixth position with a time of 20:49.30

Kokayko won the hammer throw with a toss of 182’8″, which was a regional-qualifying effort. It did not top her previous best of 183’8″, which was set at the Yellow Jacket Invitational on April, but it was the third time this season she has surpassed the regional qualifying standard in that event. Clark was runner-up with a regional mark of 178’0″, also not her season-best in the event, but it was her second regional mark of the season.

The meet will resume on Saturday at 10:00 AM with the pole vault and javelin throw. The first running event will be the 100m hurdle prelims at 11:00.
