Chepngetich Earns First Place Finish at Live in Lou Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Freshman Gladys Chepngetich secured a first-place finish at the Live in Lou Classic to mark her second, first-place finish of the 2023 season.

“I was excited to see Gladys with another win. She looked smooth and relaxed throughout the race,” Head Coach Vicky Pounds said. “It was great to see Sawyer with a breakthrough race finishing 10th with a big PB. Then we had Sam, the second Clemson finisher just off his PB and Nate Verska ran a PB to be our third finisher. I am also looking forward to having Victor back with us for our next race.”

In the Women’s 5k, Chepngetich finished the race in 16 minutes and 14 seconds as she had an average pace of five minutes and 22 seconds. Chepngetich crossed the finish line 15 seconds before the second-place finisher completed the race.

With help from Chepngetich, the Clemson women finished 11th overall in the 5k.

On the men’s side, Sawyer Dagan earned a 10th place finish in the Men’s 8k as he completed the race in 23 minutes and 58 seconds and had an average pace of four minutes and 49 seconds. Dagan’s finish marked a new personal best for the junior in the 8k event. Overall, the Clemson men finished 21st overall in the 8k.
