CLEMSON, SC – Dr. Loreto Jackson, Associate Athletic Director for Performance, announced the hiring of Sports Nutritionist Lisa Chan on Monday afternoon.
“I am very excited to add this position to our performance team,” Jackson said. “Diet and nutrition are fundamental to athlete performance, and to have a professional on staff dedicated full time to this is a tremendous benefit to our student-athletes. Lisa’s experience with a variety of student-athletes and training tables at Division I institutions means that she can make an immediate impact on our athletic performance here at Clemson.”
At Clemson, Chan will join Clemson University’s Athletic Performance Team, which includes Jackson, the strength, and athletic training staffs. She will help design and recommend optimal nutrition programs for student-athletes for performance, weight gain and weight loss. Her nutrition programs will compliment the strength staffs’ training programs to enhance performance and body composition. She will also help educate student-athletes on diet and nutrition choices away from the athletic district. In addition, working closely with the Aramark food service manager and chef, Chan will plan menus, deliver and monitor the football training table and preseason meals.
Chan comes to Clemson after spending a year as a sports dietitian intern at Auburn University. While there, she worked with a wide array of sports in a variety of ways and was heavily involved in training table supervision and dinner assistance.
In 2010, while pursuing her Master’s degree, Chan spent time as a sports nutrition associate at the University of Florida. She was also both a teaching and a course assistant in the Food Science and Human Nutrition Department there. During the summer of 2010, Chan was a team leader for the University of Florida’s Gatorade Summer Camps.
Chan has also held positions at Gold’s Gym in Austin, TX, and Bally Total Fitness in Denver, CO. She is a member of the Collegiate and Professional Sports Dietitians Association, as well as the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Chan is a registered dietitian and a certified strength and conditioning specialist.
Chan holds a bachelor of science degree in nutrition from the University of Texas and a master of science degree in dietetics from the University of Florida that includes significant internship experience.
