Clemson, S.C. – The Clemson women’s golf team moved up three spots on the second day of the FSU Match Up to take hold of the third position. Shooting team scores 301-294 for a 595 36-hole total, the Tigers sit 11 strokes off the second place Kent State team entering tomorrow’s final round.
Florida State, who was the clubhouse leader after yesterday’s opening round both as a team and individually, is the only team following day two to be at the under-par threshold as a group. Kent State fired an opening round four-under as a team before finishing Saturday’s second round at 12-over-par.
Savannah Grewal and Gracyn Burgess were the low finishers for the Tigers on Saturday, both shooting one-over-par 73’s. Grewal leads the lineup with an 11th place tie as an individual as Burgess sits 10 spots behind her teammate in a tie for 21st.
Following close behind Grewal and Burgess, Alexandra Swayne and Annabelle Pancake both fired two-over-par scores to round out the Tigers’ scoring for the day. Ivy Shepherd’s second round four-over-par 78 was not counted towards the team total. The last time the Peachtree City, Ga. native’s score was not included was the final round of last season’s FSU Match Up. Shepherd finished the event as Clemson’s second-best player, finishing 12th. Last season’s showing of the event, which was held at the Bay Point Golf Club in Panama City, Fla., was Clemson’s last event of the 2019-20 season before shutting down due to COVID-19.
Clemson’s lineup produced 17 of their 27 total birdies of their tournament in the second round. The 27 birdies ranks the Tigers third among the field and just five behind tournament leader and host school, Florida State.
The Tigers will close out the FSU Match Up on Sunday with the Clemson tee times going off every 10 minutes beginning at 9:40 a.m. All live scoring of the event can be accessed via Golfstat.
