Brown’s Shot Put Victory Highlights Friday Action for Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. – Competing at two different meets, Clemson track & field had a full day of action Friday at the Raleigh (N.C.) Relays and Texas Relays. Marcus Brown highlighted Clemson’s efforts with a win and personal best in the men’s shot put in Raleigh.

Brown put together a career effort in the shot put at Paul Derr Track, the site of last season’s ACC Outdoor Championships. The Gaithersburg, Md., native posted an opening mark of 58-6.75 to best a field of 58 throwers. It was the furthest distance in the shot put for a Tiger since Alex Padgett in 2011, and fourth-best in school history.

Also in Raleigh, Roland Hakes and Natalie Anthony earned top-15 finishes in the 5000 meters. Anthony ran in the A section and was 15th overall with a time of 16:26.20. Hakes competed in the B section and claimed ninth place in 14:24.

In Austin, Reggie Lewis and Tevin Hester had big days in the men’s 100 dash. Both qualified for Saturday’s final in legal wind conditions, Lewis in 10.20 and Hester after running 10.34. The women’s 4×100 relay team – consisting of Whitney Fountain, Marlena Wesh, Iana Amsterdam and Olivia James – posted a time of 45.23 to qualify for Saturday’s final.

In the field, Amsterdam placed third in the B section of the women’s triple jump. She posted a mark of 41-7, ninth-best in school history. Anasterasia Terrell jumped 41-1.75 to take fifth place. Mimi Land was seventh in the women’s long jump, coming in with a leap of 19-1.5.

The teams complete the two meets on Saturday.
