Boniecki Wins ACC Indoor Men’s Tennis Championship

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Clemson tennis player Tomasz Boniecki won a third set tie-breaker in the final match to capture the ACC Indoor Men’s Tennis Championship on Monday. The unseeded Boniecki won seven tie-breakers and six straight matches in route to winning the 64-man tournament.

In the first round, played on Saturday, Boniecki faced David Wright of Georgia Tech. After losing the first set 4-6, he rebounded to win the next two sets 7-5, 7-6. In the second round, Boniecki defeated Greg Archer of UNC 6-2, 7-5. In the third round, played on Sunday, Boniecki beat Michael Murray of Wake Forest 7-6, 6-2.

In the quaterfinals, also played on Sunday, Boniecki defeated fifth seed Marko Cerenko from Duke 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. In the semifinals, played on Monday morning, Boniecki again knocked off a seeded opponent as he defeated fourth seed Ramsey Smith of Duke 7-5, 7-6.

In the Finals, Bonieck defeated third seed Andres Pedroso of Duke. Boniecki lost the first set 3-6 but won the next one 6-3. In the third and final set, Boniecki won 7-6 in a tie-breaker.
