BI-LO’s Tailgate with the Top Tigers Promotion Winners Honored Friday

May 5, 2011

The Clemson Athletic Department hosted the BI-LO Tailgate with the Top Tiger promotion on Friday, April 29 as the Clemson baseball team played host to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

Gwen Davenport and William Lee, accompanied by their guests, arrived at Clemson’s Memorial Stadium at 5:00 p.m. on Friday and were given a comprehensive tour of the facility, including the West Zone. The tour included a behind-the-scenes look at the Clemson football locker room and recruiting area, pictures at Howard’s Rock and the chance to explore the West Zone Club area. Before walking to Doug Kingsmore Stadium to enjoy the baseball game, the winners were given prize packages from both BI-LO and the Clemson Athletic Department. The packages included BI-LO t-shirts, Clemson hats, Clemson baseball tickets courtesy of BI-LO and Clemson memorabilia signed by Head Coaches Dabo Swinney and Brad Brownell.

“Getting to tour the stadium was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience for my entire family,” said Davenport. “You always wonder what goes on behind the scenes and so it was amazing to go where few people get to.”

Once the entire party arrived for the baseball game, they were escorted to the Press Box Plaza where they viewed the game and enjoyed a meal provided by Aramark. Minutes later, Head Football Coach Dabo Swinney, Head Basketball Coach Brad Brownell and their families joined the promotion winners as they ate and cheered on the Tigers. At the conclusion of the fifth inning, the winners were given the opportunity to “steal a base” as the grounds crew prepared the field for the completion of the game. The winners were then taken to the press box where they participated in a live radio interview with Clemson’s Don Munson. Following the interview, the winners enjoyed the rest of the game from the Press Box Plaza as the Tigers knocked off then 7th-ranked Georgia Tech.

“Our experience with the coaches was awesome,” said Lee. “I want to thank BI-LO for giving us this opportunity to spend time with these great coaches and their families.”

The next BI-LO Tailgate with the Top Tigers event will be held during a 2011 Clemson football game. Fans will have the chance to win a once-in-a-lifetime experience that includes spending time with Head Basketball Coach Brad Brownell, and Head Baseball Coach Jack Leggett.
