Be a T.I.G.E.R! Field Day Scheduled for Saturday March 10

March 6, 2007

CLEMSON, SC – The third annual Be a T.I.G.E.R! Field Day will be held Saturday, March 10th at Jervey Meadows on the Clemson University Campus. The event will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held at the Clemson Indoor Track Complex. Students from kindergarten to fifth grade are invited, along with their families, to learn from Clemson student-athletes what it means to be a T.I.G.E.R.

The Field Day is one part of a new character education initiative in which each letter of T.I.G.E.R. represents a value important to Clemson University and its athletic programs. These values are teamwork, integrity, gratitude, education, and respect. At the Be a T.I.G.E.R! Field Day, a station is set up for each letter, with an activity designed to teach children the importance of that value.

In the previous three years, the field day has grown from just a dozen participants to over three hundred in 2006. Clemson hopes to have record attendance this year, and has new activities planned in addition to the five T.I.G.E.R. stations. These include opportunities for children to have their picture taken wearing official Clemson athletic uniforms, to meet Clemson athletes and get autographs, to learn Clemson cheers from the cheerleaders, to have fun with the Tiger mascot, to get free t-shirts and more.

Each year, the event is scheduled to take place before a Clemson home baseball game and this year, the Tigers will play Memphis on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in the second game of a three game series. The Tigers are ranked second in the nation in the preseason polls. Parents and children attending the Be A T.I.G.E.R! Field Day event will receive free admission to the baseball game upon completion of their T.I.G.E.R. card.
