GREENSBORO, N.C. – Clemson track & field’s Grace Barnett is just one of the three Clemson student-athletes to receive the Weaver-James-Corrigan Award as presented by the Atlantic Coast Conference. The ACC made the announcement Wednesday.
Barnett is an eight-time All-ACC Academic Team recipient between cross country, indoor and outdoor track competition. In 2016, she was tabbed the ACC’s Women’s Cross Country Scholar Athlete of the Year. The Pawley’s Island, South Carolina, native is also a two-time All-American in the mile (2016) and distance medley relay (2016).
Barnett is set to compete in the women’s mile and distance medley relay at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship, which are set to take place March 9-10 in College Station, Texas. Barnett posted a time of 4:38.71 at the 2018 ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships in the mile to qualify for the national championship meet. She also anchored Clemson’s DMR unit at the conference championships, helping the Tigers set the championship meet record, program record, and the nation’s No. 4 women’s DMR time this season.
The Weaver-James-Corrigan postgraduate scholarships are awarded to selected student-athletes who intend to pursue a graduate degree following completion of their undergraduate requirements. Each recipient will receive $6,000 toward his or her graduate education. Those honored have performed with distinction in both the classroom and their respective sport, while demonstrating exemplary conduct in the community.
The student-athletes will be honored at the annual Cone Health ACC Postgraduate Scholarship Luncheon presented by ESPN on April 11. The luncheon will be hosted by the Nat Greene Kiwanis Club at the Sheraton Four Seasons Hotel Imperial Ballroom in Greensboro.
The Weaver-James-Corrigan Award is named in honor of the late Jim Weaver and Bob James, as well as Gene Corrigan, the first three ACC commissioners.
