Ani Mijacika Named ACC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week

April 2, 2007

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Ani Mijacika of Clemson has been selected Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for April 2. It marks the second honor this season for the freshman.

Mijacika went 2-0 in singles action and 1-1 in doubles last week, helping No. 8 Clemson triumph over 13th-ranked North Carolina and No. 20 Duke. Ranked as the 64th singles player in the nation, Mijacika notched a pair of victories over ranked opponents that included an upset win over No. 5 Jenna Long of North Carolina and 59th-ranked Melissa Mang from Duke.

The native from Makarska, Croatia, teamed with Federica van Adrichem to make up the nation’s No. 7 doubles tandem. The pair defeated the No. 27 doubles duo of Daniela Bereck and Mang from Duke, but fell to UNC’s Long and Sara Anundson.

The Tigers will be on the road for the remainder of the season, traveling first to NC State and then Wake Forest this weekend.
