Abderrahman Earns ACC Weekly Honors

CLEMSON, S.C. – After securing three singles wins and and recording two doubles victories alongside partner Max Damm, newcomer Wissam Abderrahman has been named Freshman of the Week as announced by the conference office on Tuesday. The award marks Abderrahman’s first conference honor.

This past week, the Tigers faced Georgia Tech in Atlanta and played host to Memphis, Boston College and the College of Charleston. Clemson finished the week 2-2 as they earned their first conference-win over Boston College and swept Charleston, 7-0.

Abderrahman was a key player this past week for Clemson as he tabbed three singles wins against Memphis, Boston College and Charleston. Against Memphis, the freshman took down Conor Gannon 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) on court two to secure Clemson its second point of the match.

Against the Eagles, Abderrahman was electric on court one as he was able to take down Juan Jose Bianchi in a thrilling three-set, comeback victory (7-6 (7-3), 6-7, 1-0 (10-4)). The freshman also competed on court one against the Cougars as he downed Mattia Bernardi 6-0, 6-1 as he only allowed his opponent to score a single point throughout two-sets.

Abderrahman has been an impressive addition to the Tiger roster as he is currently ranked No. 114 in the nation in singles and is currently 13-5 this season.

Up next, Abderrahman and the Tigers will play host to Miami on Thursday, March 28 at 1 p.m. at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility. For complete coverage of the Clemson men’s tennis team, follow @ClemsonMTennis on Twitter and Instagram.
