CLEMSON, S.C. – The No. 25/RV Clemson Tigers dropped the series finale to Georgia Tech, 4-3, on Sunday evening inside McWhorter Stadium. The Tigers claimed the series win with victories on Friday and Saturday but fell to 16-8 (2-1 ACC) following the loss, while Georgia Tech improved to 16-10 (4-2 ACC). Junior Kiley Channell led the team with two hits, while Taylor Pipkins notched a single hit and two RBIs.
After both starting pitchers carried the momentum from yesterday’s game into Sunday night, neither program was able to break through on the scoreboard until the fourth. Georgia Tech found its 2-0 lead after Reese Hunter hit a home run with a runner on first. The Tigers answered in the fifth to tie the game 2-2. With pinch runners Sam Minish and Kylee Johnson on first and second, Pipkins doubled to center field and scored both.
The Yellow Jackets regained the lead two batters later off of a home run from Jayden Gailey that plated herself and the additional runner. The bases were loaded in the bottom of the sixth after Mac Pavese, Julia Knowler and Marian Collins all walked. Hicks was next at bat, walking to score Pavese and receive an RBI.
Clemson’s starter, Sierra Maness, got the first out in the sixth before the Tigers turned to Abby Dunning in relief. The Tigers returned to Maness in the circle with two outs, who needed only three pitches to retire the final GT batter of the frame. Clemson got one runner on in the bottom of the seventh, as Channell tallied her second hit, but she was left stranded to end the game.
Dunning suffered the loss and dropped to 5-3 on the year. Maness threw 109 pitches with four strikeouts in her ninth start of the year.
