PALO ALTO, Calif. – No. 21 Clemson Women’s Tennis (11-3) earned its first conference win of the season with a 4-2 win over No. 18 Stanford (5-4) on the road on Saturday afternoon.
In doubles play, Sophomores Talia Neilson-Gatenby and Artemis Aslanisvili took the first doubles match for the Tigers in commanding fashion with a 6-1win over Sein Myoung and Morgan Shaffer on court three. Gaia Parravicini and Romana Cisovska didn’t wait long to secure the doubles point for Clemson, claiming a 6-2 win on court two over Tianmei Wang and Alyssa Ahn. On court one, the pair of No. 26 Jade Groen and Rinon Okuwaki kept the match tied heading into the fourth game but ultimately fell 6-3 to Caroline Driscoll and Monika Ekstrand.
Aslanisvili soared to a 6-2, 6-1 win on court six to put the Tigers up 2-0 and add the first singles point. No.103 Okuwaki earned a 6-2, 6-2 win on court three over Caroline Driscoll to strengthen Clemson’s lead to 3-0 and remain undefeated with her 11th singles win of the season. On court one, Groen fell 6-1, 6-4 to Monika Ekstrand to bring the score to 3-1, not long after Ciovska fell 3-6, 6-2, 3-6 to No. 29 Alyssa Ahn. Neilson-Gatenby claimed the win for the Tigers, coming back from one set down to prevail with a 1-6, 6-2, 7-5 win over Tianmei Wang on court four. Sein Myoung led Ria Bhakta 7-5, 5-5 when the win was clinched for the Tigers.
UP NEXT: Clemson is back at Duckworth Family Tennis Facility for a six-game homestand. On Friday, Feb. 27 the Tigers face off with the No. 36 Irish of Notre Dame at 5 p.m.
