CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson Women’s Tennis earned their third win of the weekend with a 7-0 victory over Western Carolina and 4-0 win over Charlotte. The Tigers claimed both doubles points for the doubleheader and then followed with a singles sweep over the 49ers and a 7-0 singles victory over the Catamounts. Head Coach Boomer Saia claimed his 96th career victory, and 30th at Clemson after a 2-0 day at Duckworth.
Clemson 7, Western Carolina 0
Sophomore Gaia Parravicini and Senior Romana Cisovka opened up their second doubles match of the day with a doubles 6-1 win on court two, and Senior Jade Groen and Freshman Rinon Okuwaki took the 6-0 win over Groen’s former school for the second doubles win of the match. Rounding out doubles for the Tigers, Sophomore Talia Neilson-Gatenby and Artemis Aslanisvili earned a 6-0 win.
In singles play, all six Tigers claimed first sets, and Neilson-Gatenby notched the second point for the Tigers with her 6-0, 6-0 win. Groen followed with a 6-4, 6-1 victory on court one, to grab her second win over WCU for the match. Adding the fourth point for Clemson, Aslanisvili came back from down 1-0 in both first sets of the match to mark a 6-1,6-1 win. Freshman Okuwaki continues to be a strong player, winning five points in the second set to finish with a 6-2, 6-1 win. Cisovska totaled three aces to add the Tigers last singles point of the day with a 6-3, 6-4 victory. Sophomore Sophie Clayton took the first set 6-3 before falling 2-6 in her second set to go to a tiebreak set. Clayton was down 6-1 but powered through to take the tiebreak set 13-11.
Clemson 4, Charlotte 0
In 2025, Charlotte took the doubles point and Clemson needed four singles victories to secure a 4-3 win in the Queen City. In this season’s edition, the Tigers quickly earned the doubles point with a 6-0 win from Jade Groen and Rino Okuwaki on court one and a 6-1 victory from Gaia Parravicini and Romana Cisovska on court two.
In singles play, all six Tigers claimed first sets, and Okuwaki was able to get the second point on the board with her second consecutive 6-2, 6-1 win on the fourth line. Talia Neilson-Gatenby followed with a 7-5, 6-1 victory on court five, winning nine of the final ten games after trailing 5-4 in the first set and surrendering just nine points in the second set. The clinching point came from Cisovska, who defeated Sara Suchankova, 6-4, 6-1 on court two. Jade Groen also had a match point on court one when the match ended due to clinch.
UP NEXT: Clemson returns to action at the ITA Kickoff event in Knoxville. Clemson opens with No. 16 Tennessee on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 1 p.m., and then will play either Washington or No. 21 Pepperdine on Sunday.
