Track & Field Places Five on Academic All-ACC Teams

Greensboro, NC – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced its 2007-08 All-ACC Academic teams for men’s and women’s track & field on Friday. Clemson placed three sophomore student-athletes on the women’s team, with Caroline Kennedy becoming the first Lady Tiger to make the All-Academic team on more than one occasion. Patricia Mamona and Bethanie Wachna were also named to the team. Mike Feathers, another repeat honoree, and Miller Moss were selected from the Clemson men’s team.

Kennedy, an All-ACC pole vaulter as a freshman, made the team in 2007 as well. The Orlando, FL native was a fourth-place finisher at the 2008 ACC Indoor Championships this past season. She ranks third on Clemson’s all-time performance list and fourth on the outdoor list in the vault.

Patricia Mamona was named to the All-Academic Team for 2008. She was All-ACC on and off the track in 2008. She was four-time all-conference as a sophomore in the horizontal jumps, earning two apiece in the long jump and triple jump. She was runner-up both indoor and outdoor in the triple jump at the ACC meets. Mamona qualified for the NCAA Championships in the triple jump and placed a career-best 10th in the event. She was also All-East Region for the second straight year in the event.

Bethanie Wachna, a sophomore from Ontario, Canada, also earned All-ACC honors both on and off the track. She placed third in the javelin throw at the ACC Outdoor Championships in Atlanta, GA in April. She ranks second in school history in the event and earlier this summer competed at the Canadian Olympic Trials in the event.

On the men’s side, Feathers earned the honor for the second time in as many years. He was also All-ACC on the track as well, earning his first all-conference accolade in April after a third-place showing in the decathlon. Feathers also scored indoors in the heptathlon, finishing sixth in the February meet held in Chapel Hill, NC.

Moss was ACC runner-up in the decathlon this past season with an NCAA provisional qualifying point total. He also qualified for the NCAA East Region Championships in both the 400m and 4x400m relay. Moss was a red-shirt freshman in 2007-08 and hails from Sumter, SC.
