Baseball (@ClemsonBaseball)Record: 6-4Clemson went 1-3 last week. The Tigers defeated Presbyterian College 4-2 Tuesday before #3 South Carolina swept the Tigers in a three-game series at three different sites over the weekend. Steven Duggar (19) and Tyler Krieger (11) extended their hitting streaks. The Tigers travel to Cullowhee, N.C., Tuesday at 4 p.m. to take on Western Carolina (My40 TV), then Clemson begins ACC play with a three-game home series over the weekend against Virginia Tech.
Men’s Basketball (@ClemsonMBB)Record: 18-10, 9-7 ACCThe Tigers split a pair of games last week, falling 62-57 at Wake Forest before rallying for a 77-73 double overtime victory Sunday over Maryland. The win gave Clemson its ninth ACC win, only the ninth time in 61 seasons Clemson has won at least nine ACC games. K.J. McDaniels led four players in double figures with 26 points, 14 rebounds and six blocks. Rod Hall added 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists. The Tigers finish regular season play with two home games this week, Tuesday at 8 p.m. against Miami and Saturday at 4 p.m. against Pittsburgh.
Women’s Basketball (@ClemsonWBB)Record: 12-18, 4-12 ACCThe women’s basketball team closed the regular season with a loss at Virginia Tech, but will have a quick chance at redemption. The Tigers will play the Hokies in the First Round of the ACC Tournament Wednesday at 1 p.m. The Tigers are the 13-seed in the annual tournament, which takes place in Greensboro, N.C., at the Greensboro Coliseum.
Diving (@ClemsonDiving)Senior divers Emily Howard and Heather Britt competed at the Bulldog Invitational in Athens, Ga., this past weekend. Howard recorded scores of 294.98 and 234.30 in the one-meter and three-meter events respectively. Howard’s one-meter mark of 294.98 is her second-highest one-meter score of the season. Britt recorded a one-meter score of 224.86 and a three-meter mark 234.30.
Men’s Golf (@ClemsonMensGolf)Clemson finished a strong fourth out of 15 teams at the Puerto Rico Classic last Tuesday. The only teams to beat the Tigers were Auburn, Georgia and Georgia Tech, all of whom are ranked in the top five in the nation by the latest GolfWorld Coaches Poll. Miller Capps led Clemson with a 204 score after rounds of 70-67-67. He tied Robby Shelton of Alabama for co-medalist honors. Capps consecutive rounds of five under par 67 marked the first time since 1998 that a Clemson golfer shot five under par or better in consecutive rounds.
Clemson will next see action at the USC-Aiken Cleveland Classic March 10-11.
Women’s Golf (@ClemsonWGolf)Clemson finished tied for fifth in the 17-team Allstate Sugar Bowl Classic last Tuesday in New Orleans. The all-freshman Clemson lineup was led by Sloan Shanahan, who had rounds of 71-70-70 to finish sixth in the strong field that included #1 ranked Southern California and #2 ranked UCLA.
Clemson moved up to 10th in the latest Golfstat rankings after the performance in New Orleans, the first top 10 ranking for J.T. Horton’s team, quite an accomplishment considering the program is in its first year.
Ashlan Ramsey is ranked sixth in the nation according to the latest individual rankings by Golfstat and Golfweek. Shanahan is 28th by Golfweek and 41st by Golfstat.
The Tigers will have nearly a month off before playing in the Brian’s Creek Invitational in Johns Island, S.C., March 24-25.
Rowing (@ClemsonRowing)The women’s rowing team swept Eastern Michigan on Saturday on Lake Hartwell in the season opener. The Tigers won all three races with the 1st Varsity 8+, 2nd Varsity 4+ and 1st Novice 8+ taking first in their respective races. It was the first sweep for Clemson since winning all four races against Alabama last season. The Tigers return to action on February 15 when they host Syracuse and the Boston University lightweight squads.
Men’s Tennis (@ClemsonMTennis)Record: 12-2Men’s Tennis was idle this past week but will have two home matches this week as the Tigers host South Carolina on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. and Miami on Friday at 11 a.m.
Clemson is now 12-2 on the year. Hunter Harrington leads the Tigers in singles wins this season with a 15-6 record overall. Luke Johnson leads the team in dual match victories with a 10-1 record.
Women’s Tennis (@ClemsonWTennis)Record: 10-3, 3-0 ACCThe women’s tennis team won a pair of home conference matches this week, 7-0 over NC State, and 6-1 over No. 38 Wake Forest. The Tigers have won 12 of 13 doubles points this season, and have a 16-2 mark in singles play in conference matches. The squad will play six straight matches away from home before returning on April 4.
Track and Field (@CUTrackandField)The Tiger women finished eighth and men’s team was 11th at the ACC Indoor Championships this past weekend. Four athletes combined for five All-ACC honors, including a pair of silver medalists. Mimi Land earned multiple all-conference acclaim, taking silver in the triple jump (42’9.5″) and bronze in the high jump (6’0″). She positioned herself for possible bids to the NCAA Indoor Championships after recording personal bests in both. Tevin Hester was runner-up by two one-thousandths of a second in the men’s 60 dash, running 6.63. Torian Ware (high jump) and Whitney Fountain (60) also earned All-ACC honors with podium finishes. The NCAA Indoor Championships are up next, March 14-15 In Albuquerque, N.M.
