UPDATE (April 29): Junior defender Gabby Byorth has also been invited to the Charlottesville training camp for the U.S. U-23 Women’s National Team. Gabby joins her twin sister Emily at the game, which will be held May 1-7. Gabby also started all 20 games on defense for the Tigers in 2015, and helped hold opponents to just a 0.96 goals against average on the season.
CLEMSON, S.C. – Junior defender Emily Byorth has been invited to the U.S. Under-23 Women’s National Team camp in Charlottesville, Va. The camp will be held from May 1-7.
The Dublin, Ohio native started all 20 games for the Tigers’ back line and helped hold opponents to just 20 goals in 2015. Her lone goal on the season came in the 106th minute in the Tigers’ 2-1 double-overtime victory over Miami in Coral Gables, Fla. on Sept. 27.
Byorth received multiple postseason honors, as she was named a CoSIDA Academic All-American and was also a member of the All-ACC Academic team. She was also named the Tigers’ Defensive MVP at the team’s annual postseason awards banquet.
Byorth becomes the fifth Clemson player to attend a national team event this year. Sophomore Shannon Horgan has attended two events for the U.S. U-20 team, freshman Sam Staab has attended one for the U.S. U-19 team, 2016 signee Julie Mackin has attended an event for the U.S. U-18 team and junior Kailen Sheridan competed with the full Canadian National Team in its journey to winning the Algarve Cup in Portugal in March.
