Clemson Finishes Third at Dick’s Challenge Cup

NASHVILLE, TN – Stephen Behr fired a four-under par 67 on Saturday and Miller Capps finished fifth overall to lead Clemson to a third place finish at the Dick’s Challenge Cup at the Golf Club of Tennessee near Nashville, TN on Saturday. The Tigers finished with a team score of 849, the Tigers best score of the year in terms of total score and the three under par score was also the best vs. par.

Georgia won the team title with an 832 score, while Texas A&M was second at 837. The 10 team field was composed of five ACC schools and five SEC schools. Clemson was the top ACC school by 11 shots over Virginia.

The 10 teams will play at match play team round on Sunday. Clemson will face Georgia. The tournament format was established to model the NCAA national Tournament that will be played in late May.

Behr had his best round of the year in scoring his 67. The sophomore had four birdies and 14 pars to finish with a 213 score for the 54 holes, good enough for 12th place. He had a 32 on the back nine when he made three of his four birdies. He improved from 28th to 12th with his performance on Saturday.

Capps finished with an even par 71 on Saturday after shooting a 66 in the second round. Capps had four birdies and four bogeys on Saturday to score at even par. For the tournament he finished with a team best 14 birdies. He had rounds of 73-66-71 to finish at 210, his low tournament total of the year.

Austin Langdale was a third Tiger at par or better on Saturday with a 71. The freshman from Pendleton, SC finished in 19th place or the tournament with a 217 total, his second top 20 in three starts this year.

Carson Young finished in 14th place for the tournament, but was Clemson’s non-counter on Saturday thanks to one hole. The freshman was at even par entering the final hole Saturday, but made an eight on the par four ninth hole. Still he finished with a 75 to go with earlier rounds of 69-70 to score 213 for the 54 holes.

Cody Proveaux had a 74 on Saturday and finished at 221 for the 54 holes, good enough for 30th place. Clemson and Georgia were the only schools in the field to have all five of their players to finish in the top 30 individually.
