Clemson Track And Field Teams Host Final Indoor Home Meet of Season

Clemson, S.C. – The Clemson men’s and women’s track and field teams hosted their final home indoor meet of the 2001 season at Littlejohn Coliseum Friday and Saturday. Four Tigers posted NCAA provisional qualifying marks and two new Littlejohn track records were set.

A new Littlejohn stadium record was set in the women’s 800m and in the men’s long jump. Chritiane Ritz, a member of Vasco Da Gama track club, set a new record of 2:12.22 in the 800m, breaking the former record of 2:12.49 set in 1999 by Clemson’s Julianne Littmann. In the men’s long jump, Charlotte’s Will Montgomery set a Littlejohn track record of 25″10.25″, breaking Roland McGee’s 1996 record of 25’10”.

Sultan Tucker and Todd Matthews led the men’s team as they both earned provisional qualifying times in the 55m hurdles with times of 7.26 and 7.36, respectively. Tucker finished second in the 55m hurdles and Matthews was fourth. Jacey Harper was second in the 55m dash while teammates Kai Maull and David Collins tied for fourth. Otto Spain claimed the 200m and Maull was second in that event. Ato Modibo won the 400m while Mike Connelly was fifth in the 800m. Jason Meany had a fifth place finish in the mile run, and the Tigers were third in the distance medley relay. The Clemson 4×400 relay team also won that event in 3:15.24. In the field events, David Schenek claimed the weight throw. Matt Lombardi finished second in the shot put while Ryan Lewis was second in the pole vault and Adam Klotzbach was third. Terrance McDaniel and Bryant Howe were third and fourth in the high jump and McDaniel finished fifth in the triple jump.

On the women’s side, Cydonie Mothersill won the 55m dash and posted a provisional time of 6.86 while teammate Jamine Moton claimed the shot put and weight throw events, posting provisional marks in each. Marcia Smith posted a fifth place finish in the 55m dash and Shannon Murray was fifth in the 200m. Marcia Smith won the 400m while LaShonda Cutchin finished third in that event. Michelle Burgher was the top collegiate finisher in the 800, while Perry Fields took third and Jennifer Meador was fifth. Meador also posted a third place finish in the mile. Shannon Schoppman won the 3000m and the 4×400 team won that event in 3:44.28. In the field events, Mandy McLane won the pole vault while Sarah Ellis and Joana Costa tied for second and Katie Pickett finished second in the high jump.

The Tiger men’s team will compete at the Iowa State Invitational next weekend while the women’s team will compete at Arkansas.
