CLEMSON, S.C.– The No. 18 Pittsburgh Panthers (15-4, 13-4 ACC) defeated Clemson (11-10, 5-9 ACC) in three sets (25-18, 25-17, 25-17) Thursday evening in Jervey Gym. Pitt outside hitter Jordan Lockwood led the Panthers with 11 kills, while hitting .381. Right side hitter Solei Thomas led the Clemson effort with nine kills, hit .273 and posted three blocks.

The Tigers got off to a solid start in the first set as they led the Panthers, 9-6. Thomas registered three kills and the Tigers posted three blocks during their early run. The Panthers responded after a called timeout and chipped away at the Clemson lead. After Pitt grasped a 14-13 advantage midway through the first, it never relinquished the lead for the remainder of the match.
With the score tied, 4-4, in the second, Pitt scored six unanswered points as the Panthers started to pull away. The Tigers were held to six kills in the second as Pitt put down 12 kills and a pair of aces to solidify the set No. 2 win, 25-17.
Coming out of the break, the Panthers claimed the first five points of the third and final set, prompting Clemson to call an early timeout. Pitt ultimately won the set 25-17 after hitting .361 on 17 total kills.
Up next, the Tigers return to Jervey Gym to close out its 2020 season against Virginia Tech (6-9, 5-9 ACC) on Saturday at 5 p.m. Saturday’s contest is slated to stream on ACCNX.
