Atlanta, GA – Clemson’s women’s track & field team finished competition Saturday at the Yellow Jacket Invitational from the George C. Griffin Complex. Two Lady Tiger athletes posted regional-qualifying efforts on Saturday, Sierra Hill (400m hurdles) and Rochelle Kokayko (hammer throw).
Ope Sobanjo clocked a time of 25.87. In the 400m, Sobanjo posted a time of 58.63 to finish 12th. Thea Dix finished fourth in the 800m with a personal best effort of 2:14.46, while Patrice McMillan finished in 2:19.00, Caroline Rash in 2:25.33.
McMillan was fifth in the 1500m with a personal best time of 4:46.03. Ope Sobanjo was fourth overall with a time of 3:43.55.
Miyamoto recorded the best mark of the season for the Lady Tigers in the 100m hurdles, finishing fifth in 13.93 seconds. She just missed on a regional-qualifying mark in that event. Hardy also competed in that event for Clemson, finishing in a time of 14.39 seconds. Hill’s regional-qualifying time of 1:00.45 in the 400m hurdles was a season best and good enough for fourth place.
Jenny Barton finished as the runner-up on Saturday in the 3000m steeplechase. She improved on the school record she currently holds by clocking a time of 11:08.19 in that event. Ashley Robinson (19:38.23) and Lauren Marriott (20:33.37) also competed in the 5000m Saturday.
Tonya Nwankwo was ninth in the long jump with a mark of 18’4.25″, her personal best. Anni Korhonen was ninth in the high jump after clearing 5’5″, which was her season best in that event and Clemson’s top mark in the high jump this season. Beth Jordan cleared 10’6″ in the pole vault, Clemson’s first mark in that event so far this season.
Kokayko moved to third place all-time in Clemson history with her toss of 183’8″ in the hammer throw. Her effort was good enough for third place on Saturday and by far the best toss of the season by the Lady Tigers in that event. Della Clark was sixth in the shot put after posting a mark of 43’7″, while teammate Allison Bradshaw was 11th with a mark of 41’11.5″. Krystal Woods was seventh in the discus throw after posting a mark of 141’6″. She also competed in the javelin, again finishing seventh after a mark of 118’4″.
The Lady Tigers return to action on Saturday, April 8 to compete in the Clemson Invitational from the Rock Norman Outdoor Track & Field Complex.
