Clemson Volleyball To Close Out Regular Season At Maryland, Boston College

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson volleyball team will conclude its 2007 regular season this week with matches at Maryland and Boston College. Although the Tigers have already clinched at least a share, a win against either team would give Clemson its first outright ACC Championship since 1999.

The Tigers will take on the Terps in College Park at 5:00 pm on Wednesday evening before playing at Boston College on Friday afternoon. Danielle Hepburn leads the team with 381 kills and 148 total blocks. The junior from Miami, FL is also on pace to set the school record with a .401 hitting percentage. She is one of five Clemson hitters to have notched at least 250 kills on the year, while setter Kelsey Murphy owns an impressive 12.56 assist per game average.

Scouting the Terps Maryland owns a 17-12 record for the 2007 season and has won 9-of-11 conference matches. The Terps split last weekend with Virginia and Virginia Tech, defeating the Hokies, 3-1.

Beth Gillming leads the team with 360 kills, while three Maryland players have posted at least 100 blocks this season. Mary Beth Brown heads the group with 143, while Jade Brown has notched 121 and Katie Usher has 103. Overall, the Terps are blocking an-ACC best 3.33 blocks per game to hold the opposition to a .170 hitting percentage.

Clemson vs. Maryland, The Series The Tigers took a 28-27 lead in series score with Maryland after a 3-0 sweep earlier this season. They also hold a 13-10 advantage in matches played on Maryland’s home court.

In the match-up on Oct. 20, Danielle Hepburn and Lia Proctor added 12 in the effort. Leslie Mansfield had a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs, while Kelsey Murphy tallied 45 assists.

Scouting the Eagles Boston College enters the final week of play with a 14-16 overall record including a 7-12 mark against ACC foes. The Eagles won a pair of five-game matches last weekend over Virginia Tech and Virginia and will face Georgia Tech on Wednesday.

Kelsey Johnson became the school’s all-time kill leader in the Virginia match and boasts 482 for the seasaon. She ranks second in the league with a 4.50 kills per game average. Boston College leads the conference in service aces, recording just over two per game. Johnson, Abigail Hasebroock and Kristin Whalley have all totaled at least 30 this season.

Clemson vs. Boston College The Tigers hold a 6-2 advantage in the short series with the Eagles after posting a 3-0 sweep on Oct. 19 at Jervey Gym. Danielle Hepburn posted a team-best 16 kills and hit .444 in the contest.

The two teams split last year’s matches with each winning on the road. Clemson defeated Boston College, 3-0, in Chestnut Hill before the Eagles claimed a 3-1 decision at Jervey Gym.
