CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – It all came down to Clemson and Virginia in all four Grand Final races at the first-ever Atlantic Coast Conference Rowing Championship Saturday on Lake Monticello, but the Cavaliers swept the Tigers to claim the 2000 title.
Virginia scored 40 points and Clemson was second with 30 points. North Carolina finished third with 19 points and Duke was fourth with 11 points in the four-team championship. The four schools are the only to currently field rowing teams.
UVa won the grand final in the second varsity four with a time of 7:56.9. Clemson finished second in 8:11.8. Duke won the petite final in the second varsity four 8:18.2 to 8:29.1 over North Carolina.
In the grand final in the first varsity four, Virginia defeated Clemson 7:45.1 to 8:06.8. North Carolina won the petite final in the first varsity four 7:55.6 to 8:34.5 over Duke.
UVa won the grand final in the second varsity eight with a time of 6:51.1. Clemson finished second in 7:11.8. North Carolina won the petite final in the second varsity eight 7:17.7 to 7:21.7 over Duke.
In the grand final in the first varsity eight, Virginia defeated Clemson 6:55.9 to 7:12.6. North Carolina won the petite final in the first varsity eight 6:58.6 to 7:00.2 over Duke.
The nine-member All-ACC team is comprised of Sarah Brennan (UVa, coxswain), Emily Egge (UVa), Lauren Henne (Clemson), Chris Hillson (UVa), Katie Lakin (Duke), Erin Neppel (North Carolina), Dana Peirce (North Carolina), Barb Sheehan (UVa) and Katherine Sloan (Clemson).
Cavalier coach Kevin Sauer was named the ACC Coach of the Year and the UVa second varsity eight was named the ACC Crew of the Year. UVa’s second varsity eight is comprised of Anne Jensen (coxswain), Marina Traub, Jen Herberger, Jenny Sherman, Lauren Brown, Claudia Durkin, Lynette Sobehart, Risa Mandzuk and Sarah Dondero.
