The No. 22 Clemson women’s soccer team is heading north to take on the Boston College Eagles for their regular season finale on October 31 at 7 p.m. The game will be streamed live on ACCX with live stats available through Sidearm.
The Tigers are coming off a recent Senior Day overtime victory against Pitt that was highlighted by a two goal effort by senior Julie Mackin and the eventual overtime game-winner by freshman Hal Hershfelt. In addition to goals, freshman Caroline Conti added two assists against Pitt to move her season points total to six. The Tigers also surpassed their sixth game with 20 shots or more, adding 30 against the Panthers.
Heading into their final regular season game, Clemson has outshot opponents 275 to 123 with a 1.88 goals per game average. The Tigers are led by sophomore Renee Guion for points with 13. Her 13 points on the season come from her first career goal and 11 assists. Guion currently sits two assists shy of tying the program’s single season assist record that was set in the inaugural season by Sheri Bueter. Junior forward Mariana Speckmaier has added six goals on the season to sit just one point behind Guion for points.
Scouting the Eagles
Despite holding an 8-7-2 overall record, Boston College has had eight games decided by one goal, including a 5-4 loss to defending national champion Florida State Seminoles. Unlike most of Clemson’s opponents, the Eagles have four players that have double-digit points on the season with Sam Smith and Olivia Vaugh each having 17. This season, the Eagles have had 11 separate goal scorers with Smith leading the pack with eight through 17 games.
Thursday’s game against the Eagles and multiple other regular season finale games across the league will finalize the final spots for the ACC Championship. The top-eight teams from the conference will qualify for the ACC Championship with the quarterfinals at campus sites on November 3. The semifinals and final will be held at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina, on Friday, November 8 and Sunday, November 10, respectively.
