AUSTIN, TX – The Clemson women’s track and field team completed competition at the 2004 NCAA Outdoor Championships on Saturday at the Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin. On the final day of competition, junior Gisele Oliveira earned her third All-America outdoor honor with a third-place finish in the triple jump. Fellow junior Silja Ulfarsdottir finished ninth in the finals of the 400m hurdles, narrowly missing All-America accolades.
In the finals of the triple jump, Oliveira recorded a mark of 44’10.75″ on both her first and third attempts, tying her personal-best performance. The native of Porto Alegre, Brazil, completes her junior year as the ACC’s and Clemson’s all-time leader in the outdoor triple jump. This is the second consecutive year in which Oliveira has posted a third-place finish, and she has never placed out of the top seven in her Clemson career.
Silja Ulfarsdottir also concluded her junior season on Saturday, competing in the finals of the 400m hurdles. She finished ninth in the race with a time of 58.66. The native of Reykjavik, Iceland, was only the third Lady Tiger to compete in the intermediate hurdles at the NCAA Championships. She ranks second on Clemson’s all-time list in the 400m hurdles with a personal-best time of 57.48 set at the 2004 East Region Championships.
