2019 MLB Tigers Season Wrapup

Six former Tigers played in the major leagues in 2019, all of whom had played in the majors prior to 2019. Steven Duggar, Mike Freeman, Dominic Leone, Brad Miller, Tony Sipp and Steve Wilkerson also saw action in the majors in 2019.

Duggar (2013-15) continued to display outstanding defensive abilities in his second MLB season with the San Francisco Giants. In 73 games, he hit .234 with four homers, two triples, 12 doubles, 28 RBIs, 26 runs and one steal.

Freeman (2008-10) played his fourth MLB season overall and first with the Cleveland Indians in 2019. He batted .277 with four homers, eight doubles, 24 RBIs, 27 runs and a steal in 75 games.

Leone (2010-12) played his sixth MLB campaign overall and second with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2019. In 40 relief appearances, he was 1-0 with a save, 5.53 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 40.2 innings pitched. The Cardinals advanced to the NLDS as well.

In his seventh MLB season, Miller (2009-11) batted .260 with 13 homers, a triple, six doubles, 25 RBIs, 26 runs, a .565 slugging percentage and two steals in 79 games, including 13 games with the Cleveland Indians and 66 games with the Philadelphia Phillies. In his last nine games of the season, he had three multi-homer games and totaled seven home runs and 10 RBIs.

Sipp (2004) finished his 11th MLB season overall and first with the Washington Nationals in 2019. He was 1-2 with a 4.71 ERA and 18 strikeouts in 21.0 innings pitched over 36 relief appearances.

Wilkerson (2011-14) played 117 games in his second MLB season with the Baltimore Orioles in 2019. He hit .225 with 10 homers, two triples, 18 doubles, 35 RBIs, 41 runs and three steals. He played primarily in the outfield for the first time in 2019 and made a spectacular catch late in the game at Boston in the Orioles’ season finale.
