Athens, GA – The Clemson men’s track & field team won three titles Saturday at the Georgia Relays, which was held at the Spec Towns Track facility. Corey Brown won the 400m title, while George Fields (long jump) and Chris Spear (pole vault) claimed field event titles Saturday.
Brown clocked a time of 48.44 in the 400m to claim that title, finishing ahead of teammate Cowin Mills who placed third at 48.89. Andrew Porter was fourth in the 400m intermediate hurdles, crossing the finish line with a time of 53.51. Travis Swaggard was ninth (55.03).
The 4x400m relay team of Mills, Swaggard, Porter, and Brown finished fourth in their section and sixth overall with a time of 3:19.01. Joey O’Rourke competed in the 110m hurdles on Saturday, clocking a time of 15.80. Jay Lumpkins and Sean Reilly also ran the 1500m Saturday for the Tigers.
Spear cleared 15’7″ in the pole vault to capture that event title, and then bypassed his final attempt at the next height to try for a regional-qualifying mark. He fell short on that final attempt as well, but still claimed the victory for the Tigers in his first-ever outdoor action as a collegian.
Fields hit a mark of 23’9″ in the long jump, easily winning against the field. He accomplished the mark on his next to last jump on Saturday. Joey O’Rourke (14th) also competed in that event for Clemson. Matt Feiling was 14th in the discus throw. He had a toss of 142’3″.
The Tigers return to action next weekend, playing host to the Clemson Relays at the Rock Norman Outdoor Track on Saturday.
