Clemson Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving Teams Defeat Davidson Saturday

DAVIDSON, NC – The Clemson men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams recorded two victories apiece on Saturday at a double-dual meet held at Cannon Natatorium in Davidson, NC. The Tiger men’s team defeated Davidson by a score of 148-76 and James Madison by a score of 130-95 to improve to 11-2 overall and 2-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Clemson women’s team was victorious over Davidson (174-67) and posted a 139-97 win over Richmond on Saturday to improve their record to 9-3 (0-2 ACC).

The Clemson men’s team was led by Marsh Lindley, who won the one-meter (270.65 points) and the three-meter (277.75) diving competitions. Six other Tigers won individual events at Saturday’s meet and Clemson swept the top-three spots in four individual events.

Buddy Reed took first place in the 50 free (21.79) and Bryce Herrington finished second (21.82) in the event. The Tigers placed first, second and third in the 100 free with Drew Scheerhorn winning with a time of 47.45 followed by Herrington (47.81) and Charlie Dillon (48.06). Mark Henly led a Clemson sweep of the 200 free, posting a time of 1:42.72. Scheerhorn finished second in the event (1:44.76) and Brian Regone placed third (1:45.05). Jonathan Mengering, Dillon and Ben Kanoy took first, second and third place in the 1000 free with times of 9:36.70, 10:05.83 and 10:10.76, respectively for the Tigers.

Rob Kummer won the 100 fly for the Tigers, recording a time of 51.31, while Tommy Rappold placed second (51.36) and Kanoy was third (53.28) in the event. Reed and Joel Johnson finished second and third in the 100 back, recording times of 52.19 and 52.79, respectively for Clemson. In the 200 IM, Jordan Raynovich took first place with a time of 1:57.39, while Brett MacLennan finished second (1:57.58) to lead the Tigers.

The Tiger women’s team was led by its distance freestylers, who swept both the 500 and 1000 free on Saturday. Kim Routh, Nichole Carlton and Kim Cober placed first, second and third in the 500 free with times of 5:02.96, 5:03.40 and 5:06.13, respectively. The three also took first, second and third in the 1000 free with times of 10:16.25, 10:17.60 and 10:17.77, respectively.

Kallie Deters took second place in the 50 free for Clemson, posting a time of 24.93. Christine Anseeuw finished second (53.30) and Caroline Boden placed third (53.84) in the 100 free for the Tigers. Routh posted a time of 1:54.00 for a second-place finish in the 200 free.

Lindsey Kroeger won the 100 back (58.49) and the 200 IM (2:08.69) at Saturday’s meet. Lindsey Kroeger, Caitlin Bissell, Humes and Anseeuw won the event with a time of 1:48.68.

In the diving events, Jen Miata took first place in the one-meter, posting 192.60 points. Jessica Watcke led Clemson in the three-meter, winning the event with 252.10 points.

The Tiger’s will travel to Chapel Hill, NC on Sunday, Jan. 18 to take on North Carolina. The meet will be held at the Tar Heels’ Koury Natatorium and is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.
