Three Former Lady Tigers Competed At 2004 USA Indoor Track And Field Championships

Three former Lady Tiger track and field standouts competed at the 2004 USA Indoor Track and Field Championships this past weekend. Jamine Moton, Sheri Smith and Shekera Weston finished in the top eight at the national indoor meet.

Moton placed fifth in the weight throw with a mark of 65’11.5″ recorded on the final throw of her series. This is her second top-five finish at the USA Indoor Championships, as she placed second in the weight throw in 2003. During her collegiate career at Clemson, Moton won the 2002 NCAA Championship in the hammer throw, and was the 2002 NCAA Runner-up in the weight throw indoors. She also earned NCAA Runner-up honors in the shot put indoor and outdoor in 2001. A six-time NCAA All-American, Moton won 13 ACC Championships and was a 16-time All-ACC honoree.

Smith finished eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 41’8.75″. During her collegiate career at Clemson, Smith earned All-America honors in the triple jump indoor and outdoor in 2002. She finished seventh in the event indoor with a mark of 42’5.5″, then placed ninth outdoor with a leap of 42’7″. Smith was the ACC Champion in the triple jump outdoor in 2001 and earned All-ACC accolades in the the event indoor and outdoor in 2002. She ranks second on the Lady Tigers’ all-time list in the triple jump indoor and is also second on the oudoor triple jump list.

Weston placed seventh in the 400m with a time of 53.82 and was eighth in the 200m, crossing the finish line in 24.35. Weston was a member of the Lady Tigers’ 2001 NCAA Outdoor Championship 4x400m relay team and was a nine-time All-American during her career at Clemson. She earned two top-eight finishes in the 200m at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, placing seventh in 1999 and fourth in 2001. Weston ranks fourth on the Lady Tigers’ career list in the 200m with a time of 23.09, and also places fourth in the 400m (52.81). Weston is a member of the Clemson record-holding 4x100m, 4x200m and 4x400m relay teams. The 2001 NCAA Championship 1600m relay team set a Clemson record of 3:29.97 en route to the national crown, and the Lady Tigers’ 400m relay team placed fourth at the NCAA Championships with a time of 39.62 set in the qualifying round.
