HALFTIME: Clemson 33, NJIT 19

Three-year letterwinner Kelly Gramlich holds the Clemson single-game record for three-pointers with eight. Now, she is a graduate student, and holds the keys to victory in today’s game:

Kelly’s 3-Point Stance:

  1. Quick Start: The Lady Tigers began the game on a 17-3 run and held NJIT to only 19 points in the first half of action.
  2. A Tale of Turnovers: Clemson forced the Highlanders in 12 first half turnovers and scored 16 points off of those turnovers.
  3. Team Effort: Nine different Lady Tigers scored and ten different players saw action in the first half. Shelbie Davenport (8 pts) and Nikki Dixon (7 pts) led the balanced offensive attack.

Fun Fact of the First Half:The Tigers did an excellent job of taking care of the basketball in the first half, only turning the ball over to the Highlanders four times.

Keys to Victory:

  1. Clemson needs to continue to use its size in the interior and score points in the paint in order to win this contest. The Lady Tigers have already outscored the Highlanders 16-4 in the paint.
  2. The Lady Tigers need to attack the boards as they are currently losing the rebounding battle 20-16. In order to maintain their lead, Clemson needs to be more aggressive on the offensive and defensive glass.
  3. The key to this game in the second half will be Clemson’s defensive intensity and effort. If the Lady Tigers can continue to hold NJIT to a low shooting percentage and force the Highlanders into turning the ball over, Clemson should improve to 8-5 and an impressive 8-0 at home.
