Summer 2017: Played in three national amateur events over summer of 2017…played in the Monroe Amateur and had scores of 76-75-75-73…had best performance of the summer at the Southeast Amateur with a sixth place finish…shot five under par 275 with scores of 72-67-67-69…shot 220 at the Palmetto Amateur with a second round 71.
In 2015-16 Played in four events as an individual, including national events in the Carpet Classic, the US Collegiate and Bandon Dunes….finished with 76.33 stroke average, but had a round under par and a round at par….three of his 12 rounds were at par or better…played in first tournament of the year at the Carpet Classic as an individual….best round was a final round 76…had second round 72 at US Collegiate in October, only Stephen Behr had a better round among the six Clemson golfers who played that day…also had a second round 72 at Bandon Dunes as an individual in March, that led to his best finish of the year, No. 32…finished his season with a one-under-par 71 at the Clemson Invitational, he showed great improvement each day, going from 82-79-71…had one eagle and 30 birdies for the year.
Prior to Clemson: Ranked as the #69 player in the nation by Golfweek/Sagarin… top player on the Oxbridge Academy school team that was in its third year of existence in his senior year…Mathison was the first male athlete to sign a letter of intent from the school….played for Coach Meredith Anderson…. had a successful junior career that began with a victory at the AJGA Junior All-Star at Mission Inn when he was just 12 years and nine months old…..the youngest champion of a national junior event when he won that tournament.….third youngest to make match play at US Junior Amateur, he did that in 2010 at the age of 13…also won the FJT Winston Trails and the IJGT Tournament of Champions in 2013….in summer of 2013 he was the first alternate for his local US Open qualifying event…at the high school level he won the state regional tournament in 2013 at Bear Lakes….finished 11th at AJGA Puerto Rico Junior Open…13th at AJGA Savannah Quarters.
Summer 2014: Finished ninth at US Junior Amateur qualifier with rounds of 77-71…finished 15th at Palm Beach County Amateur with scores of 71-73-74…finished 16th at his US Amateur Qualifier with scores of 78-72.
