Clemson Rowers Earn National Scholar-Athlete Awards

CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson rowers Dawn Jackson and Catherine Pitko were among the 52 Division I student athletes to receive the first annual National Scholar-Athlete awards, as announced by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA).

The National Scholar-Athlete award is designed to recognize the outstanding academic accomplishments of female rowers and coxswains during the current season. The criteria include meeting eligibility rules as defined by her institution, participating in their second, third or fourth year of eligibility, participating in at least 75% of the season’s races in the varsity boat, the student-athlete’s Head Coach must be a member in good standing of the CRCA and the student-athlete must have a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA through the fall semester of the current season.

Pitko, a junior from Syracuse, NY, has a 3.51 GPA in packaging science. Jackson is a sophomore from Ellicott City, MD. She has a 3.77 GPA and is majoring in history and English Clemson took first and second place in the Varsity 8+ race at the Atlantic Coast Regatta and finished second in the Petite Final of the Varsity 8+ competition at the Central Region Championships.

“I am very proud of these athletes’ accomplishments both on the water and in the classroom,” said Clemson head rowing coach Susie Lueck. “They have worked hard and are an asset to our program. I am glad to see these two student-athletes get recognition for their hard work.”
