Winston-Salem, NC – Miller Moss recorded an NCAA provisional qualifying point total Wednesday in the decathlon at the Deacon Combined Events meet on the campus of Wake Forest University. Moss posted a total of 7,323 points, a personal best, to qualify provisionally for NCAAs for the second straight year in the decathlon.
The Sumter, SC native was runner-up Wednesday to former NCAA All-American Joe Detmer, who was competing unattached. Moss elevated himself from ninth in the school record books to sixth place on the all-time decathlon rankings, just four points behind former two-time ACC champion Rick Hill.
Although Moss did most of his damage on day one, Wednesday certainly provided some highlights for the red-shirt sophomore. He began the day strong in the 110m high hurdles, posting a time of 15.08. The time is just two one-hundredths off his personal best.
He moved on to the discus throw, where he recorded a mark of 115’8″. He then cleared 14’2″ in the pole vault. The ninth event was the javelin throw, and Moss hit a distance of 148’3″. He concluded the competition strong, finishing with the third-best time in the 1500m run at 4:31.90, a personal best.
