Seven Tigers to Play in BMW Tournament on Nationwide Tournament

CLEMSON, SC – Seven former Clemson players, including four All-Americans, will be in the field at the BMW Charity Pro Am resented by Synnex Corporation this weekend. The premier event on the Nationwide Tour will be played over four courses Thursday through Sunday May 19-22. The final round will be held at Thornblade Country Club in Greenville.

The Clemson contingent is led by Charles Warren, the only former Tiger in the Clemson Ring of Honor. Warren is the only Tiger to win the NCAA Championship, an accomplishment he realized at Conway Farms outside of Chicago in 1997. He is also a two-time ACC Champion. Warren has played on both the PGA Tour and the Nationwide Tour so far this year. He has won $50,250 in two Nationwide Tour events to rank 18th on the money list. The top 25 on the Nationwide Tour money list qualify for the 2012 PGA Tour.

Matt Hendrix is another former Tiger All-American in the field this week. A starter on Clemson’s NCAA Championship team of 2003, Hendrix was an All-American in 2003 and 2004 and was a finalist for the Ben Hogan Award in 2004. So far this year, Hendrix has won $64,025 to rank 11th on the Nationwide Tour money list, 11th best on tour and best among former Tigers.

Kevin Johnson and Brian Duncan are two more former Clemson All-Americans in the field this week. Johnson, who played on the PGA Tour last year, has won six Nationwide Tour events over his career to rank sixth in the history of that tour. He was an All-American for the Tigers from 1987-89. He is also a former US Public Links Champion. Duncan, who won a qualifying spot for this event, was an All-American on Clemson’s 2006 team that finished seventh in the nation.

Elliot Gealy, Tommy Biershenk and Brent Delahoussaye also will be in the field. Gealy and Biershenk are exempt players on the Nationwide Tour this year. Biershenk, who played for the Tigers from 1992-96, is 17th on the Nationwide Tour money list with $51,235 in six events. Delahoussaye played on the PGA Tour last year and was an all-conference golfer at Clemson in 2005.

Clemson Head Basketball Coach Brad Brownell will be in the field to compete in the amateur aspect of the event.
