GAFFNEY, SC – The Clemson men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams earned a sweep against Limestone College on Saturday. The men’s team outscored the Saints 144-114, while the women won 138-118.
“It’s always nice to get a win on the road,” Head Coach Christopher Ip said. “Lots of new swimmers stepped up to score for the Tigers. Myles Oliver, Kelsey Krauss, Lee Groseclose, Kerry McLaughlin, and others helped by picking up wins for the team.”
McLaughlin was victorious in the 1000 free with a time of 10:56.95. Krauss (1:56.15), Tori Cervone (1:56.33), and Kristen Redmond (1:56.75) earned a sweep of the top three slots in a close finish in the 200 free. Kelly Fowler won the 100 back in 59.94 seconds, and Maddie Tarantolo was the winner in the 100 breast with a time of 1:09.65. Redmond and Cervone led the Tigers in the 200 fly with swims of 2:09.75 and 2:11.59, respectively.
Krauss was the winner in the 100 free with her time of 53.40 seconds. Cervone (2:13.54) and Deanna Piper (2:14.98) finished atop a close group in the 200 back. Kelly McGee picked up a win in the 200 breast with a time of 2:31.21 The Tigers boasted the top two swimmers in the 200 IM in McLaughlin (2:14.04) and McGee (2:15.34).
The women also had a fantastic relay, as the 200 medley relay team of Fowler, Garrison Stevens, Sarah Bechard, and Meg Anderson finished the race with a time of 1:50.74.
Alex Carr (10:03.28) and Will Clark (10:06.35) took the top two spots in the 1000 free. Groseclose led a trio of Tigers in the 200 free with a swim of 1:46.65. Scott Aron (1:49.71) and Scott Clary (1:50.93) rounded out the top three in the event. Oliver won the 100 back in 52.38 seconds, with Walker Layne following closely behind with a time of 53.16 seconds. Harry Foster was victorious in the 200 fly with a time of 1:57.36.
Eric Bruck won the 50 free with his 20.67-second swim, followed by Chris Reinke’s time of 21.59 seconds. Reinke was also tops in the 100 free, finishing in 46.95 seconds. Oliver (1:58.78), Clark (2:00.52), and Layne (2:01.88) were the three fastest swimmers at the meet in the 200 back. Shayne Buckley and Chase Henderson finished 1-2 in the 200 breast.
The men also enjoyed success in the 200 medley relay. Oliver, Henderson, Foster, and Derek Barre finished the race with a time of 1:36.91.
The Tigers will return to the pool on Saturday, October 22, when they will battle against Savannah College of Art and Design.
