Four Tigers Earn ITA Honors

TEMPE, Ariz. – Marie Alexandre-Leduc and Fernanda Navarro were named to the 2019 ITA Collegiate All-Star Team, while Leduc, Alex Angyalosy and Laura Marti tabbed ITA Scholar-Athletes, as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Friday.

 

Leduc and Navarro earned a spot on the all-star team, a squad comprised of the top student-athletes from all five divisions of collegiate tennis, after taking home the 2018 Oracle ITA Fall National Championships this season. The pair was the first duo in Clemson history to win the fall title.

 

The doubles partners finished the 2018-19 season ranked 14th in the nation following a round of 16 showing in the NCAA Doubles Championship. Leduc and Navarro posted a 29-9 record in doubles play during the 2018-19 campaign with five victories over top-30 opponents.

 

In singles action, Leduc led the Tigers in 2018-19 with a 14-12 overall record at the No. 1 singles position. Angyalosy, in her first full season with the Tigers, played to an 8-14 overall record, while Marti, went 13-16 predominantly at No. 6. Last month, both Marti and Angyalosy were named to the Clemson University Dean’s List.

 

About the Award

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
