CLEMSON, S.C. – The No. 25/RV Clemson Tigers dropped the weekend finale, 9-1, to the No. 12/19 Mississippi State Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon in McWhorter Stadium. With the loss, Clemson fell to 13-7 on the year, while Mississippi State improved to 18-2.
The Bulldogs jumped ahead of Clemson’s pitching early with back-to-back walks to open the first. After loading the bases, Mississippi State got one run across off a wild pitch before the Tigers ended the inning on a lineup and two straight flyouts.
Mississippi State added two more in the third inning off a solo home run and an RBI single. The Bulldogs scored three more runs in the top of the fifth to extend their lead to 7-0.
The Tigers’ best look came in the bottom of the fifth after they loaded the bases. Freshman Mac Pavese was hit by a pitch to bring home Kennedy Ariail, who was running for Sarah Breaux, but Mississippi State limited the damage with a fly out to hold a 7-1 lead heading to the sixth. Mississippi State pushed their lead to 9-1 in the top of the sixth with a two-run homer, which remained as the final score.
