CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The No. 23/24 Clemson Tigers (6-5) fell 8-2 to the Charlotte 49ers (9-2) on Wednesday evening in Charlotte, N.C. Jamison Brockenbrough, Taylor Pipkins and Mac Pavese recorded two hits each, including two doubles from Brockenbrough and one from Pavese. Pipkins, Sarah Breaux and Marian Collins notched an RBI each, while Brockenbrough, Collins and Kylee Johnson were the three Tigers that scored.
Brockenbrough started the Tigers off with a double in the top of the first. A single from Pavese paired with a fielder’s choice from Collins returned Brockenbrough home, giving Clemson the lead in the first. Collins advanced to second before scoring off of a double from Breaux, making the score 2-0.
In the fourth, Macey Cintron reached on a fielder’s choice and was replaced by Kylee Johnson as pinch runner. After stealing second, Johnson ran home on a groundout from Pipkins to make it 3-0.
Charlotte answered in the bottom of the inning after loading the bases, and Charlotte’s Jaylah Jarrell walked, to score London Dirks for the Niners first run of the game. The Niners continued to add runs, first off a single that scored two followed by a groundout that plated another. A two-run homer pushed Charlotte ahead, 6-3 after four. The Niners rounded out the night with another two-run shot to push their lead to 8-3, which they held for the remainder of the game.
Junior Sierra Maness pitched 3.2 innings in her seventh appearance of the season, facing 21 batters and striking three out as she dropped to 2-2. Abby Dunning recorded two strikeouts in her 1.1 innings of work, and freshman Keira Crosby faced four batters in her lone inning of work.
