CLEMSON, S.C. – The Tigers scored five runs, including four with two outs, in the 15th and final inning to tie UNCW 10-10 in a scrimmage at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers, who totaled 15 hits, including four doubles, a triple and two homers in the scrimmage, tied the score 3-3 in the fourth inning on Caden Grice’s run-scoring triple and Chad Fairey’s two-run homer.
After five scoreless innings, UNCW scored two runs in the 10th inning to take a 5-3 lead. Lleyton Lackey, who was 3-for-3 with a homer, double and three RBIs, hit a run-scoring double in the 12th inning to tie the score 5-5.
The Seahawks scored a run in the 13th inning, two runs in the 14th inning and two runs in the top of the 15th inning to build a 10-5 lead. But Clemson rallied for five runs to tie the score in the bottom of the 15th inning.
Lackey, Jack Reynolds, Mac Starbuck and David Lewis all had run-scoring hits in the frame, with the last three coming with two outs. Lewis’ two-run single capped the scoring.
The Tigers conclude the fall practice season with three Clemson Super Regional intrasquad scrimmages at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Nov. 10 (4 p.m.), 11 (4 p.m.) and 13 (1 p.m.). Admission is free.
