2005 NCAA Women’s Tennis Individual Championships Draws Set

ATHENS, GA – The Clemson women’s tennis team has two singles players and one doubles team competing in the 2005 NCAA Individual Championships. Tigers Julie Coin and Romy Farah will begin play in the singles tournament on Monday, May 23. Both matches are scheduled to start at 1:30 PM on the Henry Feild Courts at the University of Georgia’s Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, GA.

Coin is the #2 overall seed in the tournament and will face Taka Bertrand of Vanderbilt in the opening round. The senior from Amiens, France is ranked second in the ITA singles poll and boasts a 35-4 overall record for the fall and spring seasons combined. She is also 26-2 in dual match play. During the NCAA Team Championships on May 19-21, she defeated #4 Audra Young of Northwestern in the round of 16, #41 Aniela Mojzis from North Carolina in the quarterfinals and #7 Amber Liu of Stanford in the Final Four.

Freshman Farah has compiled a 26-12 overall mark, including a 19-10 dual matches record, in her rookie season. She will face 9-16 seed Lindsey Nelson of California in the first round of the singles tournament.

The Clemson doubles team of Coin and Alix Lacelarie received an invitation to the NCAA Doubles Tournament and will begin competition on Thursday, May 26. The Tiger tandem, ranked 12th in the latest ITA doubles poll, is 13-2 overall and 10-1 during the dual season. In the team tournament, Coin and Lacelarie upset the second-ranked Northwestern team of Audra Cohen and Cristelle Grier, 8-1, and the #5 duo of Kendall Cline and Aniela Mojzis from North Carolina, 8-3.

Tickets for a single session are $7 for adults and $5 for students and can be purchased at the gate.
